Learning Mentor Level 3.



End-Point Assessment is the final assessment for an apprentice. An apprentice cannot achieve their apprenticeship without passing the End-Point Assessment.

EPA is an opportunity for an apprentice to showcase what they have learnt during their apprenticeship for a Learning Mentor. This assessment includes an Observation followed by Q&A and a Professional Discussion.

The End-Point Assessment for Learning Mentor can be carried out remotely or face to face.


Gateway requirements for a Learning Mentor includes:

  • Evidence the apprentice has achieved Level 2 Maths and English

  • Evidence that all Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours have been achieved through submitting a ‘Showcase’

  • Evidence of completion of Level 1 Safeguarding qualification.

Assessment Method​

Observation Followed by Q&A

The apprentice will have a total of 120 minutes to complete two Learning Mentor sessions with learners to demonstrate their knowledge, skills and behaviours. The observation will be followed by a question and answer session where the independent assessor will question the apprentice in order to clarify any sector/specialist practice from the observation.

Professional Discussion

In this element the independent assessor will clarify and validate the apprentice’s claim to meeting the Learning Mentor Standard through ongoing practice, illustrated in the evidence provided in the Showcase, mapped or cross-referenced to the Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours.


Apprentices will achieve an overall pass Distinction, Pass or Fail for their End-Point Assessment. The maximum mark available is 100. Those apprentices scoring over 90 will receive a distinction, those apprentices scoring 79-89 will receive a pass and those scoring 77 or below will receive a fail.

These results will be communicated within 10 days of assessment. Should the apprentice fail they may attempt a maximum of two retakes or re-sits in a six-month period from the date of the initial EPA.
